New York Artists Now

The 100 artists on the Establishment list (plus one recent retiree, Maurizio Cattelan) have helped to define an era in the New York art world. While some make work that sells for six, seven or even eight figures, others operate well beyond the reach of the market. Curious to see how New York’s living artists stack up in terms of commerce, we asked artnet to pick the Top 10 based on their auction results from 2012. A graph of the results is above; their results are below. Click to view more information about those artists.

Jeff Koons: $43.8 million
Christopher Wool: $30.4 million
Richard Prince: $16.8 million
Cindy Sherman: $15.9 million
George Condo: $9.2 million
John Currin: $8.5 million
Frank Stella: $8.2 million
Rudolf Stingel: $8.1 million
Richard Serra: $4.7 million
Alex Katz: $3.5 million

  1. As a pervious traveller to Argentina, this process of cash money was frustrating (more so because the people at immigration hate their job with a passion and if there is a problem with a passport or visa and you can only speak broken Spanish, add another 4 hours to this process). However at least people had the money to pay when they arrived, what happens if you don’t hear about this? Mark my words there are going to be a lot of people standing in these lines saying “i had no idea you had to pay online!”At least changing your pesos to dollars on your departure back home or to another country is easy…. wait……
