Martin Boyce, an artist who re-appropriates objects from public spaces to create understated, Calder-esque sculpture, was announced as the winner of the prestigious Turner Prize this afternoon. Photographer Mario Testino presented him with a check for £25,000 (about $39,000) at the Baltic Gallery in Gateshead. This was the first year the award was held in a venue other than the Tate and only the second time it has been held outside of London (in 2007, the awards were at the Tate Liverpool).
2011 was the second year in a row that a Tanya Bonakdar artist has won the award. Last year, it went to Susan Phillipsz. Read More
