Online auction house Paddle8 has recruited Dave Harper, the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s first curator of visual art, as director of special projects and client development. During his six years at BAM, Mr. Harper curated dozens of exhibitions, created multiple benefit portfolios and—perhaps most relevantly—organized seven silent auctions that collectively raised almost $2 million for the museum. BAMart and Paddle8 partnered on an online auction earlier this year.
Michael Stipe, RoseLee Goldberg, Ryan Trecartin and the Rodarte sisters are just some of the artists and curators signed up to take part in “Moving the Still: A Festival of GIFS,” the “first ever large-scale open call and exhibition” dedicated to GIFS as an art form, both in digital and real space. The festival, which is being presented by Paddle8, the online site for art collectors, and Tumblr, the social blogging platform, will launch its online call for submissions on Oct. 17.
Paddle8, the online art market, and Visionaire, the fashion publication that doubles as an artful collectible, teamed up for Visionaire’s Rio issue to commission “Oscar Niemeyer in 3-D,” a special portfolio of 3-D slides showcasing the iconic work of architect Oscar Niemeyer built from the 1940s through the 1990s in Rio, Sao Paolo and Brasilia. Today, you can view the images in a web-only exhibition.
