50 USA Fellows Named, Including Theaster Gates, Coco Fusco, William Leavitt, Receive $50,000 Grants

The United States Artists nonprofit today announced the next 54 artists who will receive its annual USA Fellowships, which come with unrestricted grants of $50,000 each. Awardees in the field of visual art include Chicago artist Theaster Gates, New York writer and artist Luis Camnitzer and Los Angeles artist William Leavitt. Choreographer and artist Trisha Brown was among the honorees in the dance category. The full list of artists, who hail from a wide variety of disciplines, follows below. Chelsea’s Alexander Gray Associates Will Expand Next Door, Doubling Size

“I’ve traded my day job for that of a general contractor,” dealer Alexander Gray told us when we reached him by phone in Chelsea yesterday. He was taking a break from supervising the expansion of his gallery into the space next door to its current location on the second floor of 508 West 26th Street, the building that is also home to Greene Naftali and Harris Lieberman Gallery. The renovation will double Alexander Gray Associates’ square footage from 2,000 to 4,000. Read More
