The Germain painter David Ostrowski (b. 1981) sold a work at the Phillips auction house London day sale today for $142,206, blowing past its pre-sale estimates of $16,000 to $25,000 on its way to a new artist record.

Mr. Ostrowski shows with Simon Lee gallery in London and was mentioned by Katya Kazakina in her recent terrific story about young, in-demand artists whose work is frequently flipped in auctions or on the secondary market. He has an upcoming show at Oko Gallery.

The work is from 2012. The catalogue notes include the following quote from Mr. Ostrowski: “It’s always about progression. It’s about the unlearning, it’s about how to create something out of nothing, it’s about eternity, it’s about painting!”
