Back in October, Gallerist reported that SculptureCenter, the Long Island City venue known for hosting excellent group shows of emerging artists and strong solo shows of more-established ones, was planning to expand. Today they’ve dripped out a few new details on that project.

The expansion will feature a “new 2,000-square-foot addition to the dramatic existing structure,” according to the release. “A one-story entrance lobby will provide ticketing, orientation, and visitor services such as a coatroom, restrooms and seating area.”

The project was designed by Andrew Berman Architect, and Maya Lin did the initial renovation plans. The expansion is part of a $6 million fundraising effort, of which over half has been raised.

SculptureCenter will remain open during the construction work, which is expected to be completed by the fall of 2014.
