Just when you thought the Belgians couldn't make their pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale any more interesting—sculptor Berlinde De Bruyckere has been tapped to present a solo-show—they release this tasty bit of news: author J.M. Coetzee is curating the affair.

But isn't Mr. Coetzee South African? Though he was born in South Africa, he has held Australian citizenship since 2006, Flanders News notes in its article about the appointment. (Thanks to Blouin Artinfo for tipping us off.)

The News spoke with the Belgian Ms. Bruyckere and explains a bit about what prompted the unusual selection:

"Berlinde De Bruyckere is familiar with J.M. Coetzee because she recently worked with him on a book entitled 'Allen vlees' ('All Flesh') with texts by the author and photos by the Flemish artist.

"'I thought why shouldn't I ask him to be the curator and he agreed.'"
