One of the lots at Swann Auction Galleries’ 20th Century Illustration sale on Jan. 24 is a rare first edition of Maurice Sendak’s first book, Where the Wild Things Are, from 1963. It is signed and inscribed with a drawing by the artist.
Also included in the sale is a group of eight pencil drawings by Sendak from 1975, made for the CBS animated series Maurice Sendak’s Really Rosie.
Sendak, who died last year, has a new book coming out in February from HarperCollins, called My Brother’s Book.
