Artist James Hyde is now represented by Horton Gallery on the Lower East Side, according to the gallery's owner, C. Sean Horton.

Mr. Hyde, a painter and sculptor who works with a range of mediums--like glass panels, chunks of concrete, large pillows and styrofoam--was featured in a two-person show at Horton, along with Jessica Labatte, in early 2012. He will work for the next year on pieces for his first show at the gallery, Mr. Horton said.

"I've been following James's work since even before I moved to New York," said Mr. Horton. "I do sometimes 20 studio visits a month, and I thought there were so many artists emulating James Hyde. So many roads lead back to him, and maybe they aren't even aware of this genealogy. He follows his own territory."

Mr. Hyde's work has been included in shows at New York galleries Brent Sikkema (now Sikkema Jenkins & Co.), Nicole Klagsbrun and DC Moore, Ochi Gallery in Los Angeles, and elsewhere. It's too early for any details about Mr. Hyde's first show with his new gallery, but Mr. Horton said, "He's constantly borrowing from his archive to bring all those narratives and materials and things into the present tense."
