    Gary Simmons celebrates the release of Gary Simmons: Paradise, the first book to bring together the artist’s work across all mediums, including photography, sculpture, installation and drawing. He’s in conversation with Thelma Golden, the director and chief curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem. —Michael H. Miller

    Opening: Doug Aitken, “100 YRS,” at 303 Gallery
    The press release for Doug Aitken’s seventh solo show at 303 Gallery bears the line: “this is a press release for an exhibition of artwork that’s not finished yet but will be by Feb. 1, 2013.” Fair enough. We’ll have to wait and see.—M.H.M.

    Did you miss Tacita Dean’s impressive chalk drawings of Afghani mountains at Documenta? Now’s the perfect time to see them. —Dan Duray

    Performance: Ellie Ga, “The Fortunetellers,” at the New Museum
    The adventurous artist Ellie Ga spent five months aboard a sailboat drifting through the icy waters of Eastern Siberia. Now, she will present her experience through a combination of live storytelling, recorded sound, photographs, maps, drawings and video in conjunction with her month-long exhibition “Museum as Hub: Walking Drifting Dragging.” Ms. Ga became interested in the Arctic during a residency in the archives of the Explorers Club—just one of the many intriguing tenures she’s taken on (she was recently a Mejan Resident at the Royal College of Art in Stockholm and a researcher at the Centre for Maritime Archaeology in Alexandria). —Zoë Lescaze

    It’s so cold out. Don’t you want to go to a group show about Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven?” It’s also a party for Maker Magazine‘s second issue—art directed by This is our work and featuring Maria Petschnig, Zipora Fried and Riley Hooker of This is our work. There you go! —D.D.

    Starting this Saturday, swing by the downtown gallery for a glimpse into the creation of DIS Magazine’s new venture: DISimages.com, a stock photography website. A diverse group of artists and photographers will join forces to form “an assembly line of image-making” in an open studio setting, where visitors can wander in and watch the team tinker with the tropes of stock photography. —Z.L.
