The students who took over Cooper Union last week have relinquished control of their room in the school’s Foundation Building, AnimalNY reports, claiming a victory though the administration did not capitulate to their demands of continued free tuition.
“We’ve never counted on this administration to protect the college, but we gave them a chance,” they wrote in a press release. “Now we feel empowered to meet these demands ourselves.”
The students spent a week in the building, receiving supplies via balloons by the alumni artist group the Bruce High Quality Foundation. The group’s inspiration, they told The New Yorker this week, was the Berlin Air Lift.
