The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit has received a $150,000 grant from the Rauschenberg Foundation to support the programming of Mike Kelley's Mobile Homestead installation at the museum.

One of Kelley's final projects before his death last January, Mobile Homestead was conceived as a moving replica of the artist's childhood home in Detroit that traveled the city providing various kinds of community services. (Its journeys were documented in the Mobile Homestead videos included in the 2012 Whitney Biennial.) Going forward, a full-size replica of Kelley's childhood home will be constructed on the MOCAD grounds, and the museum's department of education and public outreach will operate out of it, using it as a kind of community center.

Christy MacLear, executive director of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, said in a statement:

"The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is pleased to fund the collaborative programming surrounding MOCAD's installation of Mike Kelley's Mobile Homestead. These interactive works such as ‘pirate radio station’, ‘home of garage rock bands’, ‘community bike repair shop’ will bring in audiences of all kinds and test the ideas of how community spaces are used, how art is integrated and how collaboration occurs. We loved the level of experimentation to bring this to life.”
