Dawson W. Carr, who is currently curator of Spanish and Italian paintings at the National Gallery in London, has been named curator of European art at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Ore. (Not to be confused with the Portland Museum of Art, which is located in Portland, Maine.) It is a newly endowed position. The Oregonian broke the news, which we received via Artforum.

Mr. Carr, 60, has New York ties, having done his graduate work at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts and worked for a stretch at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has also worked as associate curator of paintings at Los Angeles's J. Paul Getty Museum.

Talking to The Oregonian, Mr. Carr said that he was excited about the move to Portland, which he likened to Glasgow, Scotland. "There’s a liveliness about it," he told the paper. "It values the weird, and being a bit anarchic.”

Congratulations, Mr. Carr.
