With its grand opening a little more than two months away, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Mich., is rounding out its staff, hiring Aimee Shapiro to serve as director of education.

Ms. Shapiro has held positions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and previously worked as program manager of the Artists in Education initiative at San Francisco nonprofit Southern Exposure. From the news release announcing her hiring:

At Southern Exposure, Shapiro worked with urban youth in an intensive after-school arts program, managed and taught weekly arts workshops for incarcerated youth in Bay Area juvenile justice centers, and developed an innovative one-on-one mentorship program pairing emerging artists with youth artists eager to learn what it means to be a working artist.

She earned her B.A. at Oberlin College, in Oberlin, Ohio, and her M.F.A. from the Mount Royal School of Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art, in Baltimore. She is from New York.

The museum is scheduled to open in its Zaha Hadid–designed building on Nov. 9.
