		<description><![CDATA[<p>Though painter Ralph Humphrey (1932–90) showed at some of postwar New York's most prestigious galleries during his three-decade-plus career—including Bykert, Green, Tibor de Nagy, John Weber, Mary Boone—his idiosyncratic work appears in the city only rarely these days.<!--more--></p>
<p>This September will offer a welcome relief, <strong><a href="http://www.garysnyderart.com/exhibitions/upcoming">as Chelsea's Gary Snyder Gallery</a></strong>, which represents Humphrey's estate, shows 15 of the deliciously thick, effervescently colored abstract paintings that he produced from 1973 through 1984, as he left behind the more austere brand of Minimalism that he explored in his earlier work.</p>
<p>According to this gallery, it is his first one-person show in New York since 1998, and it is accompanied by a catalog with writings by his former dealer Klaus Kertess, critic David Pagel and artist Stephen Westfall. In the slideshow above, a short look at works that will be included in the show, which runs Sept. 13 through Oct. 20.</p>
