As you’ve no doubt noticed from that sampling, Gavin Brown’s name, by no means generic, still tends to be more common than many of the others found on Planet Art. A good body double for the Gavin Brown we know and love, Gavin ‘Golden’ Brown is a multi-award-winning Canadian record producer whose main success came when collaborating with acts such as Billy Talent and Three Days Grace on records that ultimately went platinum. He has also worked with New Kids on the Block, Lady Gaga, Chad Kroeger and Cancer Bats, as well as producing the lead song to the third Twilight film, Eclipse.

Gavin Brown - Australian Rules Football Player

Now an Australian Football Hall of famer, this Gavin Brown was a wingman for Collingwood in the AFL, known for his wide array of skills on the field that resulted in 195 goals in a career spanning 13 years. After retiring in 2000 he joined the club in an assistant-coaching role and has since moved to Carlton Football Club to perform a similar role, a choice that must have been controversial as both are Melbourne-based clubs.

Gavin Brown - British Politician

Un-phased after being unsuccessful in consecutive elections for the region of Edinburgh South, this conservative was then elected to be one of seven members of Scottish parliament to represent the Lothian region. A keen family man, Mr. Brown also likes to keep himself fit. He has run the Edinburgh marathon, and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Gavin Brown - Academic

The only Gavin Brown on our list who has, sadly, passed on. Beginning his studies in Britain he attended and worked at universities including St. Andrews, Newcastle and Liverpool. At 33, he emigrated to Australia to work at the University of New South Wales, where he rose to become chair of Pure Mathematics. Before retirement he was appointed the vice chancellor at both the University of Adelaide and the University of Sydney. He died on Christmas Day in 2010.

The start to the new season has been slow for the young Scotsman, who joined ‘The Bully Wee’ from Kilmarnock, but his form in previous seasons speaks for itself, scoring twice in the 11/12 campaign, one of which came third in the Scottish Football League’s goal-of-the-season competition. USA rugby player Gavin Brown has played the game for seven years now. Four years were spent at North Central High School playing for the Panthers before making his jump up to the international level. Earlier this year he was included in a squad to travel to England to compete in a 7s A-side tournament and has claimed that travel is one of the things he most enjoys about his career.

Gavin Brown - Public Menace

Unfortunately not all Gavin Browns are honest, respectable members of society. In England, earlier this month, the Eastern Daily Press reported the harrowing story of how a Great Yarmouth resident, one Gavin Brown, had been arrested for “possession of an offensive weapon.” Police officers later identified the weapon as “a rock in a sock.” The results of the court case are unknown.
