Just in time for the London Olympics, the architect Zaha Hadid leads the visual artists named to the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth today. She joins actors Kate Winslet and Kenneth Branagh in her nomination to the OBE, and hundreds of others in being honored by the queen today.
The New York Times has a gracious quote from Mr. Branagh:
“When I was a kid, I dreamed of pulling on a shirt for the Northern Ireland football team,” Mr. Branagh, a Belfast native who was knighted, told The Associated Press. “I could only imagine how proud you might feel. Today it feels like they just gave me the shirt, and my heart’s fit to burst.”
