<p>Pablo Picasso's <em>Femme Assise </em>sold for $13,427,747, topping Christie's Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale in London, which brought in a total of $145.5 million. Eighty percent of the lots sold. The sale also broke two artist records along the way.<!--more--></p>
<p>Kurt Schwitters<em><em>'s </em></em>mixed media assemblage<em><em> Merzbild 9A Bild mit Damestein (L Merzbild L5) </em></em>(1919), broke the record for the artist's work at auction, when it sold for $1,998,875 to a European private collector—on the artist's birthday, no less (thanks @Artnet!). A still life painting by Giorgio Morandi, <em><em>Natura morta</em></em> (1920), sold for $2,170,687.</p>
<p>The work by Picasso, which exceeded its high estimate of $11,752,500, was acquired from a private collection in California.</p>
