Picasso’s ‘Femme Assise’ Leads Christie’s $146 M. Impressionist-Modern Art Evening Sale in London

Pablo Picasso's Femme Assise sold for $13,427,747, topping Christie's Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale in London, which brought in a total of $145.5 million. Eighty percent of the lots sold. The sale also broke two artist records along the way.

Kurt Schwitters's mixed media assemblage Merzbild 9A Bild mit Damestein (L Merzbild L5) (1919), broke the record for the artist's work at auction, when it sold for $1,998,875 to a European private collector—on the artist's birthday, no less (thanks @Artnet!). A still life painting by Giorgio Morandi, Natura morta (1920), sold for $2,170,687.

The work by Picasso, which exceeded its high estimate of $11,752,500, was acquired from a private collection in California.
