Phaidon Press, the British publisher that specializes in art books and cookbooks, is for sale according to The Bookseller blog. Apparently owner Richard Schlagman is looking for someone “to lead its transition from print to digital.”
Revenue was up 17 percent last year and Mr. Schlagman believes the sale will attract offers from larger publishers and people inside the art world. Phaidon Press was founded in Vienna in 1923, and began publishing art-related books in 1936. They published the art history book, The Story of Art, by Ernst Gombrich in 1950, which has sold millions of copies worldwide.
