Sotheby's London just wrapped up its evening Impressionist and Modern sale, and the star lot appears to be a Joan Miró painting from 1927, Blue Star, which sold for $36.9 million over a high estimate of $32 million.

The Wall Street Journal's Kelly Crow had the story on her Twitter feed, and wrote about the piece in an earlier blog post, available here.

The Spanish artist's previous auction record, $26.8 million, was obtained at Christie's "Art of The Surreal" evening sale in London this spring, according to Artnet.
