Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present, a documentary by Matthew Akers that follows the performance artist as she prepares for her 2010 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (which gives the film its title), will be screened at Film Forum this summer from June 13 to June 26.
The film, according to Sean Kelly Gallery, who represents Ms. Abramović, “weaves archival footage of the artist’s early works together with interviews and scenes with commentators and public figures,” including: MoMA PS1 Director Klaus Biesenbach, critic Arthur Danto, James Franco (of course), Whitney Museum curator Chrissie Iles, Mr. Kelly, writer Tom McEvilley and Ms. Abramović’s former collaborator Ulay. The film is Mr. Akers’s debut feature. It premieres Thursday night at MoMA.
