This is a big week for the artist Laurie Anderson, who will speak at SVA’s commencement ceremony on May 10, the day before her show of paintings, organized by Vito Schnabel, opens at a storefront space at Greenwich and Leroy.

Ms. Anderson will join the pantheon of SVA commencement speakers, which includes such distinguished figures as playwright Edward Albee, Lyndon B. Johnson biographer Robert A. Caro, Governor Mario Cuomo and New York Times columnist Frank Rich.

The SVA ceremony is open only to students and invited guests. It will be streamed as a live webcast at http://www.sva.edu/student-life/commencement/commencement-2012-webcast.
