(Courtesy vertexlistblog)

Sally Berger, an assistant curator in the film department at the Museum of Modern Art, has curated an exhibition in Cuba of documentary shorts from the U.S. with the help of the Americas Media Initiative, a nonprofit based in Vermont that works with Cuban filmmakers. The show is called "Closing Distances/Cerrando Distancias" and is meant, as evidenced by the exhibition's title, to foster dialogue between the U.S. and Cuba.

Included in the show are four short documentaries: Sara Neeson's Poster Girl, which focuses on a American Iraq war veteran suffering from PTSD; The Barber of Birmingham, about James Armstrong, a civil rights activist; Jesse Epstein's Wet Dreams and False Images, a film about representations of women in advertising; Housekeeping by Anthony Weeks, which centers on a housekeeper and her inner thoughts about her employers. Also screening is an animation short.

The show runs March 25 through April 8 and will travel to five different Cuban cities.

Ms. Berger, who runs the annual program "Documentary Fortnight: MoMA's International Festival of Nonfiction Film," was not available for comment, according to a museum spokesperson, because she is in Cuba presenting the screenings.
