On Saturday, May 5, in conjunction with Frieze New York, the galleries on West 26th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in Chelsea will stay open late and hold a good old fashioned block party.
In addition to galleries staying open until 8 p.m., Hannah Bronfman will DJ, the band Dreamshow will play live and there will be food trucks parked out on the street.
Jane Cohan of James Cohan Gallery has been spearheading the event. She told us over the phone last week, “I think that collectors are using the fair as the time when they’re coming to New York and really taking part in the art world.” The party is being billed as a way to “welcome visitors to the inaugural New York edition of the Frieze Art Fair” and also a “festive community response” to the Frieze-sponsored Chelsea Night, which will also take place on May 5. (James Cohan Gallery will be participating in that as well, along with Tanya Bonakdar, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Gagosian’s 21st and 24th Street locations, and others.)
