A new lawsuit has The Art Newspaper asking if the boom years preceding the current bearish economy in Greece might have cultivated an art market in which forgeries thrived.
Diamantis Diamantides, who owns the shipping firm Marmaras Navigation, has sued Sotheby’s after discovering that two works he purchased from the house, purported to be by Greek artist Konstantinos Parthenis, may not be authentic. Sotheby’s says it is looking into the matter.
