On this, the 25th anniversary of the death of Andy Warhol, The New York Times has a great City Room piece about a New York Public Library copy of Valerie Solanas' S.C.U.M. (Society for Cutting Up Men) Manifesto that the author defaced in 1977, after serving a few years in prison for shooting Warhol.

From the story:

On the title page, she wrote “This is not the title.” She also wrote that Mr. Girodias’s edition was “full of sabotaging typos.”

On the copyright page, she wrote “LIES! FRAUD!” She also circled “S.C.U.M.” and wrote, “Never! Never!”
