No Alternative: Images of Artists Space

Make sure you stop by Paul Kasmin this Thursday for Will Ryman’s first exhibition with the gallery, “Anyone and No One.” The show offers two large installations and is spread across the gallery’s two locations: sure to be quite the spectacle!

Mr. Ryman is a large-scale sculptor best known for his work The Roses, which sprouted on Park Avenue last year and then later at the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, for Art Basel Miami.

We visited Mr. Ryman’s studio late last year to preview the work in this show.

  • Back Forward Bird

    Bird

Mr. Ryman's 12-foot-tall sculpture Bird will inhabit the gallery's West 27th Street space, formerly the home of Bungalow 8.

  • Back Forward Nevermore

    Nevermore

As you may be able to tell, the sculpture is loosely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven."

  • Back Forward Man and 'Everyman'

    Man and 'Everyman'

Out on 10th Avenue, Mr. Ryman will install his Everyman statue, a massive piece that curves around the two rooms of that gallery.

  • Back Forward Jacksonian

    Jacksonian

Much of the Everyman statue uses household or D.I.Y. materials. Seen here: a hand made of bottle caps.

  • Back Forward Brushes on the Brain

    Brushes on the Brain

Inside the brain of the Everyman is a canyon-like construction of paint brushes.

  • Back Forward Nails

    Nails

In case we didn't mention, Bird is constructed of nails of various lengths.

  • Back Jeans of the 'Everyman'

Here's Everyman's jeans, made of denim. His shirt is made of destroyed, flattened work boots.
