Argentinian conceptual maestro David Lamelas–whose spotlight-in-a-dark-room piece you may have seen in Peter Eleey’s “Talent Show” exhibition at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and MoMA P.S.1–”will exhibit a site-specific installation based on his drawings made during the 1960s,” when he was in his twenties. Jorge Chikiar and John King will perform at the opening. — Andrew Russeth

Opening: Imminent Disaster “On the River: Stories from the heart of glorious abandon, where you cannot see what lies beyond the next bend” at Kesting Ray
In a curious mirroring of the Huck Finn show at Paul Kasmin, the street artist Imminent Disaster, a.k.a. Robyn Hasty, displays her new work—an exploration of the effects of the recession though cut-paper, salvaged wood, screenprinted works and wet-plate photographs from a two-year trip around the recession-plagued country. — Dan Duray
Kesting Ray, 30 Grand Street, New York, 7-9 p.m.

Opening and Reading: Taylor Mead at Churner & Churner
Artist, actor and writer Taylor Mead–who is perhaps best known as the subjects of the Warhol film Taylor Mead’s Ass (1964), which the gallery will screen on Saturday–will present work from the 1980s, including a series of paintings that “have survived cockroach infestation, subsequent fumigation, and a collapsed ceiling.” He will also read poetry at the opening. — A.R.
    Churner & Churner, 205 10th Avenue, New York, 6-8 p.m.

Opening: Ryan Foerster and Ben Schumacher at Martos Gallery
The two young artists–who both walk a line between various styles and mediums–will debut a collaborative show of new work at Martos Gallery. — M.H.M.
Martos Gallery, 540 West 29th Street, New York, 6-8 p.m.

Opening: Will Kurtz, “Extra Fucking Ordinary,” at Mike Weiss Gallery

Mike Weiss Gallery, 520 West 24 Street, New York, 6-8 p.m.

    SATURDAY, JANUARY 14

Performance: Clifford Owens at MoMA P.S.1
One of your last chances to catch the performance artist perform as part of his P.S.1 retrospective. Hilariously prodding and energetic, the On Stellar Rays artist is not to be missed. — D.D.
    MoMA P.S.1, 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Queens, 3 p.m.

    SUNDAY, JANUARY 15

Opening: “In Practice: You never look at me from the place from which I see you” at SculptureCenter
The 10 artists in this Kristen Chappa-curated show include multitasker A.K. Burns (of Community Action Center fame) and Tom Thayer, who is working with artist Ethan Ham and musician Keith Connolly (of No-Neck Blues Band fame) on a collaborative piece that has a tantalizing title: The Spaniard and the Hudson Eel. Also opening is a two-person show with Croatian artist David Maljkovic and British artist Lucy Skaer. — A.R.
    SculptureCenter, 44-19 Purves Street, Queens, 5-7 p.m.
