RISD Teams With U.S. Department of State for New Artist Initiative

The Rhode Island School of Design is partnering with the U.S. State Department in a program called Art in Embassies. Its aim is to promote cross-cultural exchange and to “nurture the talents of the next generation of professional artists,” according to a press lease posted on The Wall Street Journal’s Market Watch.

The partnership will begin with RISD visiting-artist (and RISD grad) Jim Drain. He will lead students in research projects about Morocco, which will culminate in a “large-scale outdoor” artwork for the U.S. Embassy building currently being designed there in the city of Rabat. The piece is set to be installed between 2014-15 when construction is finished.
