Here’s something for all you chair fans out there: this Thursday, designer couple Robert and Cortney Novogratz will unveil “The Chair Project” in Miami, a collaboration with Debra Singer and Tim Griffin of The Kitchen.

The Novogratzes selected 10 high-design chairs and turned them over to Kitchen-selected artists for a makeover. The end results look like Rob Pruitt’s take on an Eames chair, seen at the left, and will be on display starting Thursday. On Friday they will be auctioned off, with the proceeds donated to Locust Projects in Miami, LAXART in Los Angeles and The Kitchen.

“I never tell an artist what to do,” Mr. Novogratz told Gallerist, adding that his involvement ended with chair selection.

The pre-auction gala on Thursday takes place at the Shelborne Hotel and will be featured on an episode of the Novogratzes’ show on HGTV, Home by Novogratz.

“I think on the TV side we’re really trying to bring art to the masses because it ain’t easy,” Mr. Novogratz said. “Hopefully this will help.”

Participating artists include Josephine Meckseper, Rob Pruitt, Sarah Morris, Jim Drain, Luis Gispert, Meredyth Sparks, Dzine, Ken Okiishi, Kori Newkirk and Nathan Carter. Check out a selection of chairs in the slide show!
