Christie’s Latin American sale last night saw new records for nine artists and included a giant statue by Fernando Botero that sold for $1.76 million, with premium.

With premium, the whole sale brought in $15.3 million. Among the artists who achieved new highs were Franciso Toledo, Alfredo Volpi, Antonio Bandeira, and Franz Weissmann.

“The results were exceptional. The Latin American art market is thriving,” Virgilio Garza, Christie’s Latin American art head, told Reuters.
