One week from now, the international art world will descend on Miami for the 10th edition of Art Basel Miami Beach. More than 250 galleries will show their wares at ABMB alone, with scores more exhibitors participating in its satellite fairs. After this month’s relatively buoyant contemporary auctions in New York (and some solid eight-figure prices), hopes are high for serious sales.

But as Observer contributor Adam Lindemann noted last week, the art market works in mysterious ways. The “art market that transacts underneath these inflated, theatrical prices is often struggling and slow,” he wrote, “and though things are still moving these days, there’s difficulty, and bargaining, and plenty of teeth grinding.” It should be an interesting week in Florida.

Business aside, there is plenty of art to see at the fair. Gallerist reached out to each of ABMB’s exhibitors, and over the next few days we will present selections of work that they are bringing to their booths. We invite you to return each day to see more of what will be on view in Miami. Next week, we will be reporting from the fair.

Also available: Part 4, Part 3 and Part 2.
